Motto

A Kind Jet is A Great Jet. Practice Kindness.

Vision

At Jefferson Middle School, we envision a JetKind community that empowers students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially while fostering resilience, strong social-emotional skills, and a lifelong love of learning

Mission

The Jefferson Middle School counseling program fosters a JetKind community through equitable, data-driven, and culturally responsive support. In partnership with families, staff, and the community, we empower students to build resilience as they pursue meaningful challenges and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our mission is to prepare students for diverse career pathways where they help shape a more just world as productive citizens.

Jefferson Middle School counselors deliver an ASCA aligned comprehensive school counseling program to all students. Some of the services we provide include the following:

  • Classroom guidance lessons
  • Brief solution-focused individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Academic advisement and skill building
  • High school readiness
  • Career exploration and awareness
  • Interpersonal relationship support
  • Restorative mediation and conflict resolution
  • Bully prevention
  • Referrals to outside agencies
  • Parent/Guardian support via collaboration and conferences
  • Student focused staff collaboration for student success

Confidentiality

Students oftentimes disclose private and confidential information to school counselors. The practice of confidentiality ensures that school counselors will not share the non safety related disclosures of students with others without their permission. When safety concerns are reported by students, school counselors must involve others to keep students safe. This includes:

  • Someone is hurting the student
  • The student wants to hurt someone
  • The student wants to hurt themselves

Restorative Practice

The middle school years are a time of rapid social emotional growth that includes expanding interpersonal relationships and the need to resolve inevitable conflicts. JMS counselors utilize practices like restorative conversations and restorative mediations to guide students through the process of reflecting on their mistakes and behaviors and the ways to repair harm to others.

The WARM approach enables students and staff a consistently simple way to implement restorative practice.
